A picture that shows Jair Bolsonaro, his wife and daughter having breakfast together was generated with artificial intelligence. The content was shared through X after the former Brazilian president went back to home arrest, after spending days in a hospital. It shows Bolsonaro holding a coffee mug and using supplemental oxygen on a table with Michelle Bolsonaro and their daughter, Laura, holding a poster that says “Today I said good morning to my dad in person”.
The image has synthetic characteristics such as difference in the politician’s appearance, and excessive symmetry in the characters on the poster. Furthermore, the content features the Gemini tool’s watermark in the bottom right corner, which was partially obscured by a photo of a Brazilian flag in an attempt to disguise the use of artificial intelligence and spread disinformation.
There are no records of a similar photo in the press, in the official profiles of the president—who is banned from using social media—or in those of his family members.
