AI-generated audio simulates Haddad saying he will buy support for the elections
This content manipulated the Finance Minister's voice to spread misinformation
An audio excerpt in which Fernando Haddad (PT) says he will ‘tax everything’ in order to buy support in the elections is fake and was generated by artificial intelligence. This content was shared in video format on social media to spread misinformation about statements made by the Minister of Finance. There are no records of Haddad making any statement resembling this. The fact-checking website Fato ou Fake submitted the recording to the Hiya company (which identifies AI generated or manipulated speech) who determined it to be a deepfake – a technique that alters people’s images and speech. This content was also denied by the Ministry of Finance’s press office.
