The Brazilian Electoral Court (TSE) used artificial intelligence in an Instagram post about informed voting. A series of images published on the court’s official account shows posters bearing messages about the importance of voting being placed on top of a skyscraper in reference to an art installation created by a duo of actors in New York. “It’s no use wanting results without participating in the elections,” reads the poster in one of the images.

The content was published without disclosing the use of the technology; this was identified by our observatory using detection tools that indicated a greater than 99% probability that the images were artificially generated.

The observatory contacted the Court’s communications office, which stated that the post had been scheduled with the label but was not published with it due to “technical reasons.” The disclosure regarding the use of AI was subsequently added to the post’s caption.
